AIM: Understand and celebrate the good things God has given us

THE INTRODUCTION (2 mins)

Have someone singing like a choir boy the hymn ‘All good things around us are sent from heaven above, so thank the Lord, oh thank the Lord for all his love’

Is that true? - YES

A football fan singing ‘Carlisle Utd FC – ‘by far greatest team the world has ever seen’

Is that true – YES for the fan who supports the team.

All Good things!

Show powerpoint compilation (2 mins - Images of all aspects of creation whilst unseen narrator reads from Genesis 1 and Revelation 4v11)

THE MAIN TALK, in two parts (8 mins)

Part one

What a marvellous book Genesis is, ever read it?

I often lie in bed trying to get to sleep and think what it was like at the beginning of time.

The Bible tells me and Christians believe that ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’ The first words of the Bible.

DAY 1 – Light and Darkness

DAY 2 – Water and Sky

DAY 3 – Land, plants, trees, flowers

DAY 4 – Sun, Moon, Stars in all the universe

DAY 5 – Creatures of the sea, Birds of the air,

DAY 6 – Animals of the land and humans made in God’s image

MAIN POINTS

6 times, usually at the end of each day God exclaimed this is good. At the end of the 6th day after he had created man, he said ‘this is very good’. Mankind was the pinnacle of God’s creation. You and me were made in God’s image and exclaimed at being ‘very good’

Not only that – Gen 1v26 …Let man rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

God made man ‘very good’ with the purpose of looking after all the good things, ruling over them with care! That is something to celebrate!

However not the case now, things have gone wrong… but that’s another story

Part two

The biggest celebrations in life are seen on the world of sport.

A few memories - guess the great sporting celebration;

- Jonny Wilkinson and Will Greenwood.

- Kelly Holmes – 2 takes!

- Robbie Keane

- Mexican Wave!

THE SUMMARY (1 min)

We have seen how God created all things and that he created them all good. How will you celebrate the good things that God has given you today?
