PSHE curriculum guidelines which relate to eating disorders 

Directly related to diet and eating:

  • What makes a healthy lifestyle, including the benefits of exercise and healthy eating, what affects mental health, and how to make informed choices (KS 2)
  • How to keep healthy and what influences health, including the media (KS 3)
  • About the link between eating patterns and self-image, including eating disorders. (KS 4)

Related to emotional and mental health and well-being:

  • learning to identify and deal with feelings (KS1)
  • Think about themselves, learn from their experiences and recognise and enjoy what they are good at. (KS 1)
  • Recognising that everyone has worries(KS 1)
  • Coping with disappointment (KS 1)
  • Being able to recognise self-worth, their achievements, and their good points (KS 2)
  • How to deal with their feelings towards themselves, their family and others in a positive way  (KS 2)
  • Recognise the physical and emotional changes that take place at puberty, and how to manage these changes
    (KS 3)
  • Have a sense of their own identity and present themselves confidently in a range of situations (KS 4)
  • Recognise how other people see them, and be able to manage praise and criticism, success and failure in a positive way and learn from the experience (KS 4)
  • Use assertiveness skills to resist unhelpful pressure
    (KS 4)
  • Think about the alternatives and the long and short-term consequences when making decisions about personal health (KS 4)
  • Talk about relationships and feelings (KS 4)
