Stories of Everyday Saints
by Veronica Heley

St George proudly shows his colours as the English flag is flown in support of the Nation’s sporting teams. But how was St George and why do we still celebrate his life?

St George is one of the 40 ‘saints’ that Veronica Heley describes, showing how their lives, bravery and kindness can still inspire us all. In Stories of everyday Saints 40 five minutes read aloud adventure stories firmly put saints up with other positive role models. The author looks at a range of saints and shows how their lives really made a difference to the times they lived, or live in. As well as the historical and legendary, such as St George, and the Bible saints from the New Testament such as St Paul, she highlights worldwide saints such as Francis of Assisi, and modern day saints such as Mother Theresa, or Bob Geldof. Heley sees ‘saints’ as ordinary people who followed God and were brave and kind enough to allow him to use them for good in the world.

This excellent resource is ideal for assemblies and the classroom. (Photocopy permission included). Suitable for use with Key stage 1 and 2, each ’saint’ has their own double page, which includes a story, prayer and an activity. There are also suggested music links for each ‘saint’. This book is beautifully presented and a real joy to read.
