This lesson:

  • Complements QCA non-statutory unit 5d 'How do the beliefs of Christians influence their actions?' and 7b 'What does justice mean to Christians?'
  • Provides opportunity for moral and cultural development
  • Supports RE's contribution to Citizenship

Learning Objectives

Pupils will:

  • Explore ideas about what makes someone a hero
  • Look at John the Baptist as an example of a Biblical hero
  • Look at how values and beliefs influence people's actions

Resources:

  • Scrap paper for teams to write scores
  • Sticky labels or something similar that can be written on and temporarily stuck on a chair
  • Calculator (optional)
  • Up to seven chairs set aside
  • List of famous black people (PDF)
